This October, Team SECURE joined in on the spooktacular fun at Fort McMurray's Clearwater Horse Club (CWHC) annual Trick-or-Treat Fundraiser, showcasing our waste management bin services! The CWHC fundraiser is a beloved community tradition, drawing over 1,000 families to a Halloween extravaganza complete with 36 festively decorated barns and trick-or-treating galore. Proceeds from the fundraiser go towards the operations of the club.

June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day, a time to honour and celebrate the history, heritage, resilience and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis across Canada. We spoke with Brandi Mercer, SECURE’s Team Lead of Land, who shared what National Indigenous Peoples Day means to her and how she is honouring her history.
Who is Brandi Mercer? I’m a grandmother, mother, daughter and friend. If you ask my friends to describe me, they’d probably say I’m strong, resilient and authentic. I’ve been with SECURE since the merger with Tervita and am currently leading SECURE’s land department.

Last month, our Metals Recycling facility in Brooks partnered with the local Royal Canadian Air Cadets to save 13,380 lbs of household metal waste from the landfill. Thanks to the community of Brooks rallying behind them, the Air Cadets raised $1,282 for their saved scrap metal.

Every November, Team SECURE come together to raise funds, have discussions and bring awareness to men’s mental and physical health. Movember provides an important opportunity for us to break down stigmas and raise money for a life-saving cause. Though growing a mustache is a classic symbol of Movember, Team SECURE participates in many different ways including movement, hosting events and bake sales and providing opportunities to have conversations.
