It’s that time of the year again when we have to say goodbye to our summer students.

We are grateful for the hard work of our 34 students. Because of our summer students we received a shot of youthful energy, excitement, innovation, and initiative.

Cody Wunder, a second-year trading and scheduling student, summed up his experience:

“Working at SECURE has been a great experience. Having completed two summers with the Trading and Scheduling group, I learned so much. My incredible supervisor and team welcomed me quickly and took time to answer questions while providing meaningful feedback so that I am best equipped to grow in the corporate environment. I was given stimulating work and had many opportunities to learn about different roles in the company. Overall, SECURE’s Summer Student Program offered valuable opportunities through hands-on facility visits, executive networking events, research projects with other summer students, volunteering days, and team-building activities.”

SECURE’s summer students were hired across various business units in Alberta and British Columbia for a four-month work term. For most of the students, this was their first time working in a corporate environment. Our program is a great opportunity for students to discover what they like doing and to align education with career aspirations.

This program provides business units with a helping hand and a fresh perspective on the industry.

For many summer students, work experience can be a validation of the career path they have chosen, or it may reveal new opportunities.

One of our ESG summer students, Aressana Challand, shared her experience and perspective from this summer:

"I could not be more grateful and appreciative of the amazing, supportive, dynamic, and enriched summer student experience I had this year! This was my first summer at SECURE, and my first internship in the oil and gas industry. This work experience has provided me with an amazing opportunity to explore this industry and my interests. There was always something new to learn or experience throughout the summer; from our student program activities like the Summer Student Field Trip, volunteering at the Drop-In Centre, an Executive Meet and Greet, and a student group presentation, to the activities and project opportunities within the health and safety team. I felt empowered by the support of my team and everyone I met to take on new projects and engage with other departments. I’d like to say a big, heartfelt thank you to everyone at SECURE for the time and effort you put into supporting my growth and that of the summer students. The four months went by so quickly. I’m finishing this term feeling more aware of the career I’d like to follow after my undergrad and with a team of support behind me."

Best of luck to the whole group in their continued education and bright futures may hold.
