With September fast approaching, we prepare to send off our summer students.
SECURE's summer student program is designed to provide an experiential learning opportunity for students to apply the skills they are acquiring during their degree within a team of dedicated professionals.
This year, 31 students were hired across various business units in Alberta and British Columbia for a four-month work term. For most of the students, this was their first time working in a corporate environment.
The Summer of 2022 was a huge success for SECURE's summer students as they sought out to become vital parts of their teams, and did so by accepting any challenge they faced, tackling them with grace and an energetic presence. With overwhelmingly positive feedback from employees and students, everyone can agree that this summer experience will be one to remember.
One of SECURE's Finance and Accounting summer students regarding their experience said,
"Working as a summer student at SECURE has been an amazing experience. I've had the opportunity to join an extremely welcoming team where I felt valued from day one. My supervisors have been extremely supportive, taking the time out of their busy schedules to ensure that I am learning new skills on a weekly basis. The projects I've worked on have allowed me to apply what I've learned in my classes and expand my knowledge much further. The summer student program has been extremely well organized, and it was a pleasure to be a part of. All the students in the program had the chance to visit some of SECURE's facilities, network with executives, attend the company's Stampede events, and much more. Overall, my experience this summer has not only increased my skillset but also shown me the wide range of opportunities at SECURE."
Students, their supervisors, and peers were able to celebrate the success of a fantastic summer with an afternoon at SECURE's head office in Calgary, AB. Beverages and sandwiches were provided as students and their managers conversed, laughed, and reminisced about the last four months at SECURE.
SECURE's summer student program is a great opportunity for students to discover what they like doing and to align their education with their career aspirations.
For SECURE, this program provides business units with a helping hand and a fresh perspective to the industry. For many summer students, work experience can be a validation to the career path they have chosen, or it may reveal new positions they were not previously aware of.

I am appreciative of everyone who facilitated the program, which was well-organized from orientation to ongoing training, allowing me to quickly adapt and find my stride within SECURE. I am in absolute awe of the many wonderful and inspiring individuals I have crossed paths with, so many of which I have had the pleasure of working with. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who ensured that the Summer Student Program was a success!"
